Three Flat Walks

Sometimes it's good to get the miles in without the climb - here are three fairly flat walks of varying distances.  These walks are suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities.

Walk 1 - Otley Park and Gallows Hill (2.5 Miles)

This short walk starts at Otley's Buttercross and takes you through the park, along the river to Gallows Hill nature reserve then back into Otley itself.

WALKS 2 & 3

If you are looking for flat walks then you cant go far wrong with a walk along the Leeds Liverpool Canal.  These walks start at the same location - Steeton & Silsden Railway Station and pick up the canal at Silsden.  One route heading west towards Skipton the other east towards Saltaire.  At the end of each walk you can pick up a train back to Steeton.

Canal walking is great, apart from the odd lock its relatively flat and very easy to follow with good paths and signage.  They can get rather busy especially at the weekends.  You can also expect to see some interesting wildlife including herons and kites.

The Leeds Liverpool Canal started construction in 1770 and was completed 46 years later in 1816.  Which ever stretch you choose to walk you will see some great architecture from the last 200 years.
