Thorner (7.5 Miles)

As we are still in lockdown due to the Covid Pandemic this walk continues to explore the local area around Otley (c10 miles radius)

The walk starts in the beautiful village of Thorner nestling halfway between Leeds and Wetherby.  On the day we visited there was plenty of free street parking available and we parked up outside the impressive St Peter's church.

A short walk through the village and you are quickly on to a footpath to open countryside.  The walk takes you though several farm fields, woodland areas and some short periods of road walking.  There are also some small climbs but nothing too strenuous with this walk suitable for walkers of all abilities.

From a photography perspective, and for a second week running, the conditions weren't great with grey skies and drizzle for the duration.  The scenery is very much West Yorkshire with more hedgerow than dry stone wall.  The right of way takes you though several working crop fields including wheat, maize and potatoes - the wheat fields offer some great photo opportunities, as do some of the woodland elements of this walk.  Thorner itself is also very picturesque and a return visit in the sun is planned.  Its worth noting that on our visit in August the grass / crops were quite high and it was raining - so we got quite quite wet from the feet up.

After 2.5 hours we are back at the car, usually a reward of a local pint is in order but given the current lockdown we passed, but I am sure we will sample the two village pubs Thorner has to offer on a return visit.

All in all a straight forward 8 miler in the West Yorkshire countryside.
