A not too strenuous 5 miler around Nidderdale. The walk starts at the lay-by near the (now closed) Darley Mills where you will find parking for 3-4 cars. Once you gain some height there are some spectacular panoramic views to be had of the North Yorkshire countryside. You will also pass many picturesque farms, barns and houses along the way.
Mid walk there are some path redirections to look out for and whilst they are signposted it does frustrate me sometimes how these right of way changes are managed. Some do it very well with excellent sign posting and actual improvements to the path. But some seem todo the bare minimum (i.e. put up a notice and map).
On a positive note towards the end of the walk is a small 15th century packhorse bridge that is thought to have been a key route linking Ilkley and Fountains Abbey. A great opportunity to break out the circular polariser.
Overall today's conditions (overcast) weren't great for any striking vistas or big skies but I'll definitely be back to explore more of what this part of Nidderdale has to offer.
