If you are looking for a gentle walk, suitable for all ages with some great views then this walk ticks all the boxes. The walk has good paths throughout and includes interesting views of some of the local landmarks including Almscliffe Crag and Arthington Viaduct.
Parking is on the lay-by on Farnley Lane, over the hedge is the field and path that will take you to Leathley. From the lay-by follow the road back towards Otley (north west) until you find the entrance to the field on the right.
Once in the field the path is obvious and hugs a boundary fence to your left. The path takes you past Farnley Lake and the ruined Boathouse which was once painted by Turner. At the end of the path you come across a small footbridge over the River Washburn, over this bridge and across a field to join the main road to Harrogate.
Follow the road north for a short while and you will pick up the footpath on your right at Fishpool. This well signposted path takes you to the Stainburn road and after a short walk the start of Hall Lane in Leathley.
Along Hall Lane you are presented with views of the Chevin and the village of Pool and as you ascend the gentle climb of Leafield Bank there are some great views of the Arthington Viaduct.
You soon pick up Riffa Lane which offers up some views of Almescliffe Crag. At the end of Riffa Lane you join Stainburn Lane and descend back to pick up the Fishpool path once again to retrace your steps back to the start point.
