This 6.5 mile walk through some stunning scenery is suitable for all walkers. It is comprised of three 2 mile (ish) stages. Starting with a gentle amble along the river Wharfe then a climb up to Cam Head to a final descend back into Kettlewell.
THE WALK
We arrived in Kettlewell and parked in the Pay and Display car park (here) - it was midweek so we had the pick of the spaces. After we had booted up and setup the cameras we were off heading over the bridge to pick up the north west path along the river towards Starbotton.
This first 2 mile stretch is flat and well signposted through the fields. You soon realise that one of the standout features of this area are the iconic stone barns that pepper the fields here. This first stretch ends at wooden bridge that marks a crossroads with paths to Buckden, Arncliffe and Starbotton meeting here. Take the path across the bridge and into Starbotton.
Starbotton is a small village with a population of just 48, with many of the houses converted to holiday lets. Our path takes us straight through the village heading northwards via a steep climb to join the Cam Road. You'll be climbing for the next 2 miles, the wide path provides plenty of rest stops and opportunities to enjoy the panoramic views of Wharfedale.
After 2 miles you will pick up the path signposted back to Kettlewell at Cam Head (to your right). You are now heading southwards back to Kettlewell. Again the views here are breathtaking with Kilnsey Crag and Conistone in clear view. After a couple of miles you find yourself back in Kettlewell and heading back to the start point at the carpark.
Kettlewell, although small, does have three pubs and a collection of small shops and a tea room to refresh yourself after a thoroughly enjoyable 6.5 miles. It's been a while since we walked in this area but we will definitely be back later this year as the views were stunning and we passed a number of different paths and routes worth exploring further.
